What is LexisNexis “Top 100 Global Innovators” list?
LexisNexis “Top 100 Global Innovators” list recognizes 100 companies around the world that are driving innovation across their businesses and their industries, based on the quality improvement of their patent portfolios.

When will the “Top 100 Global Innovators” list be announced?
LexisNexis plans to announce the “Top 100 Global Innovators” for 2025 at 7 a.m. ET on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.  Please do not send out any employee or external communications about the news (i.e. social media posts, press releases, blogs, newsletters, etc.) until the embargo lifts on February 18^th.

How were the LexisNexis “Top 100 Global Innovators” selected?
Since 2022, LexisNexis Intellectual Property Solutions has conducted an annual analysis across its global patent database to identify companies that are leaders in global innovation, based on the quality improvements of their patent portfolios over a two-year period.

What methodology can be used in press/internal materials?
LexisNexis Intellectual Property Solutions conducted an analysis across its database of nearly 16 million global patent families to identify companies that are leaders in global innovation. The methodology was based on LexisNexis’ Patent Asset Index, which was used to measure the strength and quality of a company’s patent assets. The analysis tracked exceptional shifts in patent portfolio quality over the last two years to identify the companies named as the “Top 100 Global Innovators” in this year’s “Innovation Momentum 2025” report. 

What other information is included in the “Innovation Momentum 2025” report?
In addition to the “Top 100 Global Innovators” list of top companies, the “Innovation Momentum 2025” report also includes a section focusing on the pure research and non-profit organizations that would have been featured in the top 100, if it extended to those non-commercial entities.

How does the “Top 100 Global Innovators” list differ from other rankings?
Unlike other patent rankings, the “Top 100 Global Innovators” analysis focuses on patent quality, not the aggregate number of a company’s patents or rate of filings. By measuring the improvement in the quality of a company’s patent portfolio, the “Top 100 Global Innovators” list identifies the world’s innovation leaders, not simply a list of companies that have filed the most patents.
